The Renaissance Singers is always pleased to hear from singers who wish to join the choir.
We rehearse on Monday evenings between 7.00pm and 9.30pm in the church of St Sepulchre-without-Newgate, near St Paul's Cathedral. For each of our 5-6 concerts each season there are around six rehearsals.
Members are also expected to attend an annual weekend away at Ascot Priory where we work intensively on repertoire and technique, often including consort singing, as well as having time to socialise.
The support of choir members is strongly encouraged at our Open Workshops. The Friends of the choir, who are very loyal in their attendance at concerts, enjoy the opportunity to sing amongst the choir at workshops.
Our core membership is 22 singers but we occasionally ask guest singers to join the group for special occasions or as deputies.
The choir operates as a non profit making charity and there is an annual subscription fee of £180 which covers the costs of running the choir and its programme. Each year a small number of choral scholarships are offered in the form of waived subscription fees to enable younger singers and students to join the choir.
What we are looking for
The Renaissance Singers is a group with a passion for polyphony. We ask for a strong commitment from members – some singers travel weekly from as far away as Coventry and Cambridge - and in return you will get to work with excellent conductors on challenging, specialist repertoire and vocal technique.
We look for confident singers with excellent sight-reading – we don’t do note-bashing or rehearse with a piano.
Female and male altos are equally welcome to audition.
